Thing 22: Yet Another Bed?!
I got some furniture parts delivered, and I tossed the plastic that was protecting the finish onto the floor. Now I might have to leave it there—for a while, anyway.

Today I did some more prototyping and discovered why the interesting tea-cosy shape I came up with won't work, and selected fabric for the plain vanilla bell-shaped cosy I'm going to make after all.
I also caught my cat using his new bed!

He's acting nonchalant, but I know he loves it. I think.
I need a new tea cosy, and I have been thinking about ways to make it a little more interesting than just a flat bell shape of 2 parts. (It just occurred to me that the appeal of such shapes is easily slipping them into a drawer, but my tea cosy lives on my teapot, which is in daily use.)

This has promise. I plan to sew in a loop of ribbon at the top.
Got home from work at 10 PM last night, so finishing the cat bed had to wait for today. Here it is!

This has ties on 3 corners, to attach to the frame the shelf rests on. I had originally planned to put ties on all corners to make it easily reversible, but I like the green slightly better than the blue, and this fits the end of the shelf he likes best anyway (without a loose tie to keep track of).
I set him down on it to see what he thinks, and he yawned. That's good, right?
I got the perfect thread and did the quilting step. Because the fabric already has a strong pattern, I didn't want to do anything to get in the way of it. I quilted both sides.

I sat down to do the quilting step for my cat's new bed, and wow the thread I planned to use doesn't work at all! I tried a bunch of stitch settings but it was a pretty big mess. So next thing is to get different thread!
Update: Success! Got perfect thread!
Shortly after I made the picture for pieces of this year's cat bed, my cat reminded me why I usually stay away from that gauzy ribbon by trying to swallow it. So I got some ribbon of a type he finds less palatable.

I know, it's a bit of a cheat, but it was a heavy work day.
I seem to have developed a tradition of making a cat bed during Thing-a-day, and these are the pieces for this year's:

It will be tied to a shelf on a frame, as in this shot (not actually that shelf, although it could get moved there):

Here are the previous beds (with a worrying trend toward less complexity!): 2010 and 2009.
Seriously fell off the last few days. I took a long walk today, though.

Today I looked at things that are at least 10 feet above the ground:
